Dirt bike helmet

Post by Twan on Sun May 04, 2008 12:50 pm

Helmet for a good friend of mine

Started with a blanc Arai helmet.
removed all the air intakes, degreased the rubbers and masked them.
Sanded the helmet with 400 dry.
Sprayed a white pearl base coat
Positioned the plotted logo's on the helmet
Drawn the checkered flag on the site and cut it with an Exacto knife

Added the design with fineline tape
used 3mm, but mostly 1,5mm
Colours fluo orange with gold metal flake
Black
Tribal on top is silver with silver metal flake

Sprayed the checkered flag.

After this 3 layers of clear

sanded the edges back with 400
added some striping on the back, it was a bit empty there.
outlined the flag with a grey pinstripe.
outlined the name with white

No stickers on this helmet, all paint

Ready for final clear

The orange looks brighter in real, but you know how it can get after taking a photo
He wanted the black to have a matt finish, but I cinvinced him the high gloss looks better

If you can find grammatical errors.........you can keep them lol!

It's the 2nd helmet I've painted.
But there's a catch.
In my spare time I started to work at a professional Helmet painter.
This was my first helmet I painted there. Too see if I liked to do that kind of work, I did a helmet for myself, so he didn't have to pay me the first learning process, just the paint Very Happy

It took me about 30 hours to paint the helmet.
I didn't count the hours designing the grafix( i did at home), I'd just started working with corel draw, so it took a great amount of time, to design and fit the grafix.
It was also my first time with the big spray guns, I'd only used an airbrush.( not that easy)

It takes a lot of time to get the lines straight on a round surface, but as I've seen on your site, I don't have to tell you that.

I'm still learning.
